Tag Archives: long term goals

Having spent a week off work due to illness, I had alot of time to reflect on things I have and haven’t done in the past few months.  During this time, I’ve come to realize that there so many other goals I wanted to achieve in my life in all areas.

With so many goals, I didn’t know where to begin. At this point, before I became more confused, I put in place the following actions:

– opened up to a blank page in my diary
– listed the top five things I wanted to achieve over the next six  months
– in the order of priority I was eating healthier incorporating more exercise, cutting down on unnecessary spending on items I want but don’t need instead choosing to put more towards my savings and my upcoming holiday. Other ways I have managed to save was to eat out less.

Long term goals
– focus on my career growth and opportunities
– focus on things outside of work such as blogging for the woosh-it  cause, expanding and spreading the word of woosh-it by helping others  to find their purpose in life
– build and be a significant contributor towards my youth community

Each day I go back to my diary to make sure I’m taking the necessary  steps, however little they may be so long as

they are keeping me on  track knowing that I’m heading in the right direction.

Having this all written down  I can refer back to these pages to remind myself what  matters and what I’m passionate about.

If you like your life and want to tweak it a little, goal setting is essential. If your life is due for sweeping changes then goal setting is essential. Goal setting is simply essential for everyone.

Goals are the foundation of personal growth. They represent the journey and the destination. For example in a game of soccer or hockey you get into the net and it is a goal. It is both the process of playing the game and the object to winning the game.

Without goals you can live a nice life. But good luck. Better hope the winds of fate just happen to blow you toward a sheltered port in the inevitable storm. With goals, it puts you into direction and every sunrise can mark a new beginning. Once you know the ideal life you want, you have already taken the step to create your own goals. Each step you take will be be a goal itself and will take you a step closer in acheiving your goal.

Choose a goal wisely. It should be part of an overall plan. It should reflect your heartfelt passion and your vision for the future. If you’re not sure what you want out inlife then its time to take inventory.

Lets talk about ways to set goals:

1. Short term goals of one day one week or one month should be pretty straightforward. It should be probable that they can be acheiveed within the time frame you set.

2. Medium term goals anywhere from ninety days to six months, require a little stretching. Approach the upper limits of your comfort zone , bordering on your failure zone

3. Long term goals of a year or more are set to challenge your current beleif system. These goals should scare you. You’ll have no idea how to accomplish these goals. When a young bird is pushed from the nest for the first time, it has no idea how to fly. But with the ground rushing up, the bird starts furiously flapping its wings and a little miracle happens. Once you get off the ground and attain a long term goal imediately set another long term goal.

4. Goals are measurable and specific, you must set a time frame so you know when the goal is to be accomplished.

5. Write the goals in the present tense as if it is actually happening at the time of your writing. Act as if you are already that dream or ideal person now. So simply just follow this saying BE Now BEfore you can BECOME.

6. Work toward your goals until the last minute of the last hour of your deadline. So don’t give up even though it appears all hope is lost.

7. Time has ran out. Once in a while it happens. You didn’t accomplishi your goal. A little dissapointment is natural, but always remember striving for a goal is every bit as important as its ultimate acheivement. What you can do is just review your steps again to determine what could have been done differently to assist in setting your next goal. Never be discouraged. Just take it as a learning curve or experience. Acknowledge the fact you have put in your effort.

8. Don’t force it- don’t fall into the trap of trying too hard. Just relax concentrate and focus on the process of acheiving your goal. Be aware of the desired result, but do not obsess on the outcome or be affected by it. Don’t look back or dwell on the past, keep moving forward shift your focus to what you have to do to acheive your tasks. Literally see the goal acheived as if it was destined. But remove yourself slightly from the end result. Excessive emotional attachement to results can actually undercut your progress toward ahceivement.
